Jason Wallach Recipient of Prestigious Bankruptcy Pro Bono Award

Jason Wallach, a bankruptcy and business litigation partner in the Marina del Rey office of Berger Kahn, received the prestigious William J. Lasarow Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Service at Public Counsel's Debtor Assistance Project Annual Pro Bono Award Reception on Jan. 18. Public Counsel is the largest pro bono law office in the nation, and is the public interest law firm of the L.A. County Bar and Beverly Hills Bar Associations.

Jason is widely recognized for his bankruptcy expertise and his commitment to pro bono causes. In 2003, Jason was named Public Counsel's Debtor Assistance Project Advocate of the Year. In 2004, he was honored by the State Bar of California with a nomination for the President's Pro Bono Service Award. Jason also has been named a Southern California Super Lawyer for the second year in a row.

"We congratulate Jason on his well-deserved honor. We are proud of his commitment to providing high quality legal services to those in need," said Allen L. Michel, managing partner of Berger Kahn's Marina del Rey office.

Jason coordinated a team of seven volunteers and provided free legal services to dozens of low-income clients of the Los Angeles Free Clinic who were left without counsel when the clinic closed its legal services operation effective July 1, 2005.

Jason has more than 25 years of experience handling bankruptcy and financial disputes, counseling and representing businesses and individuals as plaintiffs and defendants in litigation, and as secured and unsecured creditors, debtors, trustees, lenders, investors, landlords, tenants, shareholders, directors and other parties in all aspects of Chapter 7, 11 and 13 bankruptcies and appeals.

He is Chair of the Los Angeles County Bar Association's Pro Bono Bankruptcy Committee, and serves on the Executive Committees of the Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section and the Provisional and Post-Judgment Remedies Section.
